Very curious about your input. Told by an individual who makes his living full time from vintage watches that the omega 53 is a mechanically better watch than the iwc mk11( HE DOESN'T SELL VINTAGE OMEGAS ) Just surprised, Bob.

The Omega caliber 283 is based on the 30mm series of movements that won all the chronometer awards in competition in the 1940s. It is a descendent of the 30 T2 SC. So it really depends what is meant by better. Personally, I'm probably with your friend, it's a larger movement, which a larger balance, so in theory, it should be the more accurate of the two. It does not hack however, the IWC does. I think you can make the argument that the IWC has better decoration whereas the 283 has a sort of plain copper finish that is prone to tarnishing.
